Instagram Is Opening Up To Advertisers

I was so excited when I heard the news that Instagram is opening up to advertisers. In case you don’t already know, Facebook owns Instagram, so if the new advertising tools are even nearly as good as those on Facebook then it’s definitely something to celebrate.

Instagram says that advertisers will be able to target audiences by age, interests, gender and more. The company has worked with brands, agencies and its own community to design an advertising experience that feels native to the platform.

Part of the offering is the ability to tailor adverts for specific objectives – from awareness and message association to website visits and offline sales. Advertisers will have various options, from photo and video ads to carousel ads that allow brands to tell a deeper story and provide a link for people to learn more.

Of course there will be some who groan at the thought of commercialising another social network, but let’s face it – it was always going to happen. Most social networks who are committed to keeping services free to users have turned to advertising to pay the bills.
